CAMTRA ACTION
Main Line

CAMTRA’s focus its attention to women, either being community female leaders, poor female workers or young women living in poor areas.

CAMTRA develops its actions based on Women’s Rights Promotion and a Non-sexist Education. This has proved to be one of the best ways to reach those women and to attend their needs of inequality.

Women’s Rights Promotion
CAMTRA recognizes improvement in the field of women’s rights promotion among History because of many fights and efforts from women and organizations all around the world. For this reason the current existence of women’s and feminist’s movements and associations are important to keep moving forward to achieve more development in this field and to enforce women’s rights giving a better condition of life for the majority of the population.

Nevertheless, there are few organizations especially in Rio de Janeiro that focus on working together with women from poor communities, young women and women that take part in syndicates for social movements.

Historically CAMTRA has accomplished the role of supporting those women. The organization expects to better use its past experience in order to build forms of action more focused on the women’s collective work potential in the promotion of their rights.

In order to achieve concrete results to this idea CAMTRA dedicate itself to

* Intensify women’s participation in syndicates, communitarian organizations, youth organizations and to take part in movements, especially in the Rio de Janeiro area;

* Improve women’s organizations support;

*Amplify the production and diffusion of information about women’s rights, especially in the Rio de Janeiro area;

*Stimulate the potential of transformation existing in women’s organizations and networks in order to attending their collective rights;

* Act in the field of human rights be it formulating public policies proposals, or requiring those policies enforcement

Once conscientious that the achievement of our goals cannot rely on the organization isolated from the society. CAMTRA will work in order to amplify the network with other organizations that have within their interests contributing to women’s rights development. For this reason the institution will work towards the possibility of organizing at least one annual seminar in which it will be possible to discuss the achievements and challenges related to women’s rights followed by a publication of the debate. This way the information resulted from this seminar can reach a larger number of women in the Rio de Janeiro area and Brazil as a whole, stimulating new networks to be formed.

Non-sexist Education
CAMTRA believes that the reproduction of patterns that impose diversified types of limitations to women happens in different ways. Education is one of those ways and these reproductions are also related to the elementary school’s female and male teachers.

Starting in 2002 with the pioneer project with two schools that form teachers, CAMTRA had the opportunity to show a new way of dealing with education in a non-sexist way. It means giving to these female students the challenge of thinking over their role in education in a way that does not reproduce the present sexism of society. It also means building with those students a pedagogic material that can be used as their guide while teaching.

This way CAMTRA dedicates itself to formulate a non-sexist education based on two fundamental ideals:

* Formation of young educators by having them taking part in courses especially designed to the creation of alternative pedagogic methodologies which can be used in class, allied with;

*Production and diffusion of knowledge using the theoretical-methodology research that helps the understanding of concepts and assumptions and supports the elaboration of the suggested goal.

CAMTRA believes that this can be an important contribution for a future wider development of a non-sexist education to male and female teacher elsewhere in Rio de Janeiro areas, including those schools linked with social movements.
